RIEDENBURG

A sanctuary in an excellent and highly sought-after location, with valuable detached villas built mainly in an architectural style of the late 19th century, known as Gründerzeit.

Today Riedenburg is an exclusive, peaceful area comprising a cluster of villas close to the heart of the city. It is situated at the foot of the Rainberg hill and was first mentioned by Archbishop Konrad I in an 1139 document transferring the land, which was then a vineyard, into the ownership of The Chapter of Salzburg Cathedral. Since the 18th century, the district has been linked to the old city centre through the Mönchsberg hill by the Neutor, also known as Sigmundstor.
